A stones throw away from Perth CBD, Lane Poole Reserve is a great location for a quick escape to the wilds. There is plenty to see and do with various hiking trails, mountain biking, kayaking on the Murray River or try your luck at spotlighting the native fauna at night with hopes to see chuditch, woylies and possums.
The old growth jarrah and marri trees demand respect as they tower against the blue skies, their textured bark and many limbs act like an organic hotel to many species. There are multiple places to camp from adjacent the tranquil waters of the river to the old Nanga Mill site and best of all it is one of the few reserves where dogs are welcome to join in the quick weekend away.
