Wandering

Fancy wandering around Wandering? It is well worth the short drive 130km just south east of Perth to spend New Years here. Situated in Marradong Country in the heart of the Darling Range, surrounded by farmland with patches of remnant wandoo forest to the east and jarrah forest to the west, there is much to explore. Need tree time but don’t want to travel far? Avon Valley National Park is situated a mere stones throw from Perth city! Visit in spring to be welcomed by a carpet of white and yellow daisies smiling out from underneath a mixture of jarrah, marri, powderbark and wandoo forest.

Boonerring Hill

Boonerring Hill is another great spot along the northern part of the Bibbulmun track. Set in the Darling Range, the track affords grand views to the west of Jarrahdale State Forest and to the east over farmland. The cracked rocks at the base of the hill are like a giant’s jigsaw puzzle set among granite gardens that only nature could create. The wildflowers with grass trees and eucalypts also perfectly frame vistas of the outcrop.

Abyssinia Rock

Abyssinia Rock is a cosy granite outcrop skirted by jarrah forest near the beginning of the Bibbulmun track.  Part of the greater Darling Range, this section of the Jarrahdale State Forest is characterised by pockets of exposed rock that create a diversity of micro habitats to explore. From reflective rock pools to lichen of every colour, the outcrop is a great place to ponder a sunset from or appreciate a non-moonrise!
